Asheville will Survive.
Block Print 11×17 in
I wrote this message three days after the tragedy. I created the print on the Saturday and Sunday following Hurricane Helene—working by candlelight after losing power:
"I created this print three days after Hurricane Helene. I lost about 80 percent of my total inventory. Marquee, my main place to sell and the way I supported my son in Mexico, was completely destroyed."
The response from the people of Asheville was incredible. Hundreds of prints and T-shirts helped me recover economically. The Center for Craft commissioned a special project called “Craft Will Rise,” and the Asheville Art Museum later presented it in an exhibition.
The most amazing recognition came from The New York Times, in an article by Eduardo Medina with photography by Mike Belleme.
Thank you for continuing to support this print and for helping ensure we never forget that we are strong—and that we will survive.
